Nikon D850 Modular Plates
Overview
As part of a modular system, this conventional base plate still functions as a traditional camera mounting plate, but also has the added flexibility of accepting a separate dedicated vertical L-Component to create a fully modular L-Plate with two dovetail mounting surfaces. You can purchase the dedicated vertical L-Component as a separate add-on, or as a set package with the base plate.
For those looking for an ultralight alternative, we are offering the BD850-UL.

Camera mounts, quick release plates and tripods - always buy a quality product designed for the correct camera and lens!

We have been long time RRS customers and always recommend their camera mounts and quick release plates. When it comes to purchasing your tripod, camera mount (ball head) and quick release plates it’s always best not to skimp! Buy a quality product made for the correct camera and lens. Have you ever seen an expensive camera flip off its mount? I have! I watched a photographer lose not one, but TWO pro DSLR’s with long lenses! He had used an inexpensive flimsy camera mount. I swear by RRS equipment and have used their products in all weather and shooting environments around the world.
Best L Plates Available

It's no surprise that these are by far the best L plates available. This is RRS after all. I currently have the full set for body and grip and it's made to amazing tolerances. The clearances between non-contact points can be measured in tenths of millimeters or less. The frame makes contact on the rubberized portions of the grips and stands free over the hard portions. I tested flex at the small clearances and it retained them no matter how much pressure I put on it with my bare hands.
On the gripped model the bottom of the plate is right over the area for the vertical hold. RRS has customarily taken great care in sculpting this area to keep down the bulk and make sure it's comfortable. They've done an exemplary job as usual. You do notice a small increase in the depth but it's not bad at all and it's all very comfy. The onboard hex keys with magnetic retention is genius and really puts this plate system at the top of its class. I cannot recommend this grip more highly.
