A Really Right Stuff ballhead is the best choice for all general photography, and will give you fast and accurate control and solid support of your camera or lens. Aiming and horizon leveling can be accomplished as one instinctive motion, and rigid lockup takes just a quick twist of one control. As a result, our ballheads are faster to use and inherently more stable than 3-axis “pan-tilt" tripod heads. Since the ballhead profile is smaller and lacks the protruding handles, they are also much easier to carry and pack.
These are no-nonsense heads with robust capacity, offering minimal weight and elegant simplicity. They excel as ground-level macro tools, but also as super light heads for backpacking, travel, and table top use.
A note about choosing the BH-30 Pro II ballhead.
The clamp that comes installed on this ballhead is our full-size B2-Pro-II clamp. This clamp is larger than the clamp that comes installed on the BH-30 Pro ballhead. If the diameter of your tripod platform is larger than the base diameter of the ballhead (1.6"/ 41mm) you will experience clearance issues when using the drop notch; you will not have full use of the drop notch because the clamp will hit the tripod before reaching 90-degrees. The larger B2-Pro II clamp cannot freely clear wider platforms because the head itself has such a low profile. In most cases this is not an issue if you use L-plates, but we strongly urge you to choose the BH-30 Pro ballhead instead of the BH-30 Pro II ballhead if you use conventional body plates.
The T-lever on the BH-30 is longer on one end to help you lock the ball down solidly. It is spring loaded; simply pull it out to reposition the lever to allow it to clear wider tripod platforms. The BH-30 ballhead has a beefy T-lever to lock ball articulation and a pan knob to control the panning base. The main lock knob can be used independently or in conjunction with the pan lock knob for full articulation.
Comes packed in its own padded Cordura protective draw-string pouch. Use the pouch to cover and protect the ballhead when mounted to the tripod, for carrying the ballhead in your carry-on luggage when traveling, or when the ballhead & tripod are strapped to a photo backpack.
